Duchess Sophie Recreates Beatles 'Abbey Road' Photo

Duchess Sophie is taking her and Prince Edward's new “chosen ones” status in stride. Yesterday, the duchess was asked to fill in at a public engagement usually reserved for Catherine, Princess of Wales —and she relished in her moment.

Sophie recreated the Beatles’s iconic 1969 Abbey Road album cover photo. In the likeness of John Legend, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, the royal strutted across the famous crosswalk wearing a big, beaming smile on her face. Adding to her radiance, she embraced spring in a coral-pink midi dress that featured long sleeves with fanciful cuffs, a cinched waist detail, and a flowy, pleated skirt from Beulah London.

Sophie paired the piece with classic nude pointed-toe stilettos, a small brown crocodile-embossed clutch bag, a dainty gold bracelet, and stringy gold drop earrings. She completed the look by pulling her hair back into a voluminous low ponytail and wearing pretty, fresh makeup.

The royal garnered quite the audience, as a crowd of passersby stopped and cheered. The snap was taken while the duchess was attending the Orbis Visionaries Reception at Abbey Road Studios. Sophie serves as the Global Ambassador for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, a role she holds dear to her heart, as her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, was born with esotropia. The rare eye condition causes one eye to turn inwards and requires corrective surgery, which Louise underwent successfully years ago.

Earlier in the day, Prince Edward represented King Charles in London for Anzac Day. Edward attended the Dawn Service at Hyde Park Corner at the New Zealand Memorial, a tribute that honored fallen members of the Australian and New Zealand armed forces.

Edward and Sophie are reportedly seen as the British royal family’s new “chosen ones,” as they have stepped in for Charles and Middleton, who are each on a public duty hiatus as they undergo cancer treatment. Edward and Sophie led their first major royal event on April 8, filling in for Charles at the 120th anniversary celebration parade of the Entente Cordiale.

The royal couple may unofficially be the new “chosen ones,” but it appears they’ll have to wait a bit longer to get their flowers. Sophie and Edward’s engagements come after they reportedly expressed disappointment over not receiving new royal titles

Earlier this week, King Charles named Middleton the Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour, marking a major royal first. William, Prince of Wales was bestowed the title of Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (previously held by Charles in 2022) and Queen Camilla earned the title of Great Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Neither Edward nor Sophie were included in Charles’s list of new honors.
