5 Ways to Infuse Boho Parisian Style Home Decor Into Your Abode
Countless books have been written about French women and their fawned-over sense of style, and while fashion publicist, brand consultant and author Angie Niles isn’t alone in her fascination with Paris’ impossibly chic denizens (and lifelong quest to emulate them), she makes one very important distinction in her new book Bright Lights Paris ($24.95; Berkley), which makes its debut today: that there isn’t one singular French style.
Instead, Niles points out that there are many different types of Parisian women, from Saint-Germain’s polished, gallery-hopping lady to Montmartre’s artistic gals. On the right bank—just north of Le Marais—you’ll find Canal Saint Martin and its boho-chic girls. “I love the carefree spirit and bohemian vibes of this neighborhood,” says Niles, who spent much of her adulthood living in the City of Light. “You can picnic along the canal, shop at little boutiques full of accessories and home decor items by unknown designers, and even take a boat tour with friends.”

The Canal Saint Martin gal is “likely wearing a tiered cotton maxi skirt; a mix of wood, metal and woven colored bangles; and flat beaded sandals tied around her ankle,” describes Niles. “She’s 100 percent bohemian head to toe, inside and out.” But, her boho spirit doesn’t stop at her sartorial choices. Here, Niles shares five items you need to get the look in your own home.

Colorful Rugs
“I love to create my bohemian home retreat by first selecting the rug, which becomes the centerpiece of the room or backyard area,” says Niles. “From there, you can add in eclectic home accessories and lighting. I prefer prints in rich jewel tones but you can also find beautiful boho rugs in more subdued colors and some that even double as quilts. Anthropologie and Lulu & Georgia have some of my favorite selections in a range of prices.”

Throw Pillows
“You can never have too many pillows when creating an indoor or outdoor boho oasis,” explains Niles. “Mix and match prints and colors to add texture to the space. Poufs are also perfect for sitting floor level—either in fabric or leather.”

Magical Lanterns
“Light up your space with Moroccan metal or brass lanterns,” suggests Niles. “You can accent the room with a variety of styles, including lantern wall sconces, floor or table lanterns, or a triad with a hanging lantern. I found mine at One Kings Lane, one of my favorite sites for eclectic home décor.”

Tea Table
“Moroccan tea tables are perfect for serving tea, treats or just stacking your boho décor books,” says Niles. “Buy one with a removable tray top that can also be used directly on the floor.”

Moroccan Tea Glasses
“You can serve both hot and cold drinks in these jewel-toned tea glasses,” says Niles. “My favorite dishes for boho parties are meat and vegetarian kebabs, roasted veggies and a big bowl of couscous in a beautiful pottery bowl.” Get Niles’ Moroccan Mint Tea recipe in her new book, Bright Lights Paris .
